Cool Tumblr Discovery

This evening I was sent a PDF flyer in an email, 2MB of information inviting me to a local event which I sadly can’t attend…but, I thought I can share this with my network. I wanted to Tweet it and blog it…somehow filtering it on to my website.

This is when I thought, can I tumble a file? No. Ok…I could turn it in to a JPG and tumble it as a picture…hmmm an added step of photoshop. Tabbing through the posting options in the tumblr dashboard I noted that in the video post I can embed a video using its widget code. Could I paste in any widget code? Yes it seems I can.

The Tumblr widget is already on my website. Tumblr posts to Twitter so…

I uploaded the event flyer to Scribd, a document sharing service.
Copied the widget code for the embed
Pasted it in to the Tumblr video embed dialogue
Nice discovery that sure enough the Flyer is embeded in my Tumblr stream on my website.

Distributing content to multiple social locations is very useful. Go social media!

I thought it was about time I learnt how to edit video. Live streaming is fast and easy but the quality is a often a compromise. As a web ‘super user’ rather than a IT techy tackling some of the processes to get digital content online is a challenge. I am a huge believer is using the technology to hand and working it to its maximum. Finding the limitation and frustrations is what tends to drive me on to invest in new hardware or software. The same goes for mobile phones.

This video was shot at MediaCampBucks in May 2008. It was a conversation that reinforced much of what I felt Social Media could be and in the 18 month since this was filmed I have learnt so much and I hope shared much of it too.
